NEW YORK – Today, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ al Sudani met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss Iraqi banking sector reform, financial relations with the United States, and combatting illicit finance. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo congratulated Prime Minister Sudani on Iraq’s significant progress on banking sector reform, which has broadened Iraq’s international financial connectivity and increased financial inclusion. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo emphasized Treasury’s support for the Central Bank of Iraq (CBI) and the Prime Minister’s reform agenda. Deputy Secretary Adeyemo also applauded Iraq’s 6.0 percent growth in the non-oil economy. He also asked about the steps the Prime Minister is taking to diversify the Iraqi economy from hydrocarbons.
