Acting Federal Trade Commission Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen has designated Kathleen Benway, Chief of Staff of the Bureau of Consumer Protection, as Elder Justice Coordinator as part of the agency’s responsibilities under the Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act. The Elder Justice Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the enforcement and consumer education efforts and policy activities of the FTC on elder justice issues.
Under the Act, which is designed to help prevent elder abuse and exploitation and improve the justice system’s response to victims in elder abuse and exploitation cases, the FTC will report annually to the U. S. Senate and House judiciary committees on elder abuse enforcement actions.
