Commission Extends Public Comment Period in Petroleum Industry Marketing Manipulation ANPR Proceeding Until June 23, 2008

Commission extension of public comment period – The Commission today announced the extension of the public comment period related to the Petroleum Industry Marketing Manipulation Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) Proceeding. The comment period will be extended until June 23, 2008. On May 7, 2008, the FTC published the ANPR in the Federal Register in connection with the exercise of its rulemaking authority under Section 811 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The notice, which was announced on May 1 and can be found as a link to this press release and on the Commission’s Web site, sets a 30-day public comment period on the ANPR, with an expiration date of June 6. In response to a request to extend the comment period received on May 19, 2008, the Commission has determined to extend the comment period for an additional 15 days. A notice announcing the extension will be published in the Federal Register shortly.

The Commission vote approving the extension of the comment period was 4-0. (FTC File No. P082900; the staff contact is James F. Mongoven, Bureau of Competition, 202-326-3772; see related press release dated May 1, 2008.)
