FTC Approves Filing of Amended Complaint in Matter of Merchant Processing, Inc.

Commission approval of amended complaint filing: The Commission has approved the filing of an amended complaint in the matter currently pending against Merchant Processing, Inc., et al. The original complaint in this case, announced in April 2007, alleged the defendants used deceptive tactics to sell credit- and debit-card processing services to thousands of small businesses across the county. Through the amended complaint, the FTC has added Karely McCarthy and PPI Services Inc. as defendants in the case. The Commission vote to approve filing of the amended complaint was 5-0. It was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon on October 12, 2007. (Civ. No. CV07-0533; the staff contact is Mary T.
