The Federal Trade Commission is alerting people to the importance of emergency preparedness with free resources, in English and Spanish, as the Atlantic hurricane season gets under way this month.
A new blog post, Hurricane Season 2020 and COVID-19, points to helpful tips and resources on the FTC’s mobile-friendly website, ftc.gov/weatheremergencies. Of special note this year is how people should prepare during a pandemic.
The FTC also has created a new infographic with relevant information that is ready to share on social media and in people’s communities.
The post also highlights the FTC’s customizable one-page handout, Picking Up The Pieces After a Disaster. It has tips on avoiding common post-disaster scams, protecting personal information, and getting back on your feet financially, and can be customized with local consumer protection and emergency service contacts. People can then print or email the customized copies and distribute them throughout their communities.
