Acting Federal Trade Commission Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen issued the following statement commemorating Veterans Day 2017:
“Veterans Day is an opportunity for all Americans to thank those who served, or are serving, and to appreciate the many sacrifices that servicemembers have made for us. In turn, it is our duty to support and protect those who protect our great nation,” said Acting FTC Chairman Maureen K. Ohlhausen. “Here at the FTC, we know military consumers face unique financial challenges and can be targeted by fraudsters, and so we’ve made it a top priority to protect them through law enforcement and consumer education efforts.”
During the past year the FTC has undertaken a series of initiatives to identify the needs of military consumers and empower servicemembers, veterans, and their families. Under the leadership of Acting Chairman Ohlhausen, the agency convened a Military Consumer Workshop: Protecting Those Who Protect our Nation. The FTC held a joint conference with state and local officials on protecting military consumers, and launched an FTC website dedicated to the agency’s new Military Task Force. Acting Chairman Ohlhausen also has advocated strongly against the proliferation of unnecessary or overbroad occupational licensing that threatens economic liberty and is particularly harmful to military families who relocate frequently. The agency also supported a Telehealth Rule proposed by the Department of Veterans Affairs that will promote competition and increase veterans’ access to care.
