From October 9-13, 2019, ABADÁ-Capoeira Academy NYC is hosting a series of events that showcase the Afro-Brazilian martial arts Capoeira, accompanied by music, dance, and special performances by special guests from all over the world.
Taking place on October 9-13, 2019, the 2019 NYC Batizado is designed to showcase students’ progress after months of hard work and dedication. This progress is marked by the changing of cords as they “graduate” to the next level. Organized by Professor Gordinho and attended by guests from all over the world, the five-day event is highly interactive with martial arts, music, dance, and special performances.
Capoeira practitioners can participate in a series of workshops led by renowned Capoeira Master Morcego from Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Spectators will also be entertained by the dynamic music, dance, cultural and martial arts performances. The games, called “rodas,” will provide an opportunity for participants to interact with special guests who are highly-regarded celebrities in the world of Capoeira.
Businesses including El Barrio’s Artspace, The Deep End, Berimbau Sao Bento, SPEAR Physical Therapy, and Virgil Ocampo Photography provided in-kind donations which will deliver an experience above and beyond the attendances’ expectations.
The Batizado Ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 13, from 12 to 2pm, at The Riverside Theatre located at 91 Claremont Ave, New York. It will include theatrical performances, spectacular solo demonstrations, and graduations marked by students receiving their new cords. As part of ACANYC’s effort to promote capoeira, the Batizado Ceremony is free and open to public.
