Lightning Defense Martial Art (LDMA) announced today its grand opening of its new martial art studio that combines martial art, fitness, and technology in a novel way that achieves high caloric burn. In addition, its members won first place in a national sports tournament earlier this year. With these striking results, the studio has plans of opening many more locations in the area.
LDMA teaches Kumdo which is a modern, Asian sword-fighting martial art. Using protective armor and bamboo swords, Kumdo allows practitioners to put their full force into their strikes without injuring their opponents. As a result, Kumdo practitioners are able to continue to practice well into their 80’s and even 90’s. LDMA currently has a member who is in his 70’s.
Classes at LDMA are taught by Grandmaster Soon Chil Chang who has been teaching full time for 28 years and has dedicated his life to teaching the highest level of Kumdo. He is a 7th Degree Black Belt and teaches classes in person, demonstrating techniques, and provides personal instruction even sparring with members as part of classes. As a result, members’ martial art skill advances very rapidly.
To this point, Grandmaster Chang led a team composed of members from LDMA to represent Washington, DC and won first place in Kumdo at the 20th Biennial Korean American National Sports Festival in Seattle, WA on June 21-23, 2019. Over 5,000 athletes, staff, and spectators gathered together for over 20 different sports to compete at different area venues. 31 different cities across the U.S. were represented.
Lightning Defense Martial Art is a fitness studio that delivers high intensity workouts to its members through use of technology and unique martial art. It is located in Chantilly, VA and will host open house events Friday, October 18 at 7:30pm-9:30pm and Saturday, October 18 at 10am-noon. For more information, the studio’s website is www.lightningdefensemartialart.com and is on Facebook and Instagram.
