Neighborhood Music School to Honor Music Trailblazer, Community Partner and Local Business Leader at Annual Gala on October 12

Boyle Heights-Based Nonprofit Organization Celebrates Individuals Commitment to Music Education and Beyond.

Los Angeles, CA, October 08, 2019 –(PR.com)– Neighborhood Music School (NMS) is proud to recognize three exceptional individuals who have helped to support, inspire and engage the Boyle Heights community at the the Annual Gala, Music Masquerade at the GRAMMY Museum at LA Live on October 12, 2019. Supervisor Hilda L. Solis will be honored with the President’s Award for her strong commitment to the community and recognition of the integral role the arts play in education and the livelihood of all. Composer Germaine Franco will be honored with the 2019 Mancini Award. Franco is an accomplished film composer with credits in movies including Disney and Pixar’s “Coco” and most recently “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.” She is the first Latin composer to join the music branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Ron Gustafson, President and Chairman of Coast Packing in Vernon and longtime Neighborhood Music School Board Member will be honored with the Local Business Leader Award.

The NMS Music Masquerade Gala will take place at the iconic Grammy Museum in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It is an entertaining evening showcasing all that NMS has to offer. With performances featuring our teaching artists, students and performing ensembles. This event will celebrate 105 years of the rich history, community and access to music education that NMS provides.

Since its founding as a settlement school in the early 1900s, NMS has provided low-cost/ high quality one on one music instruction to the underserved and immigrant communities of Boyle Heights, Vernon, Maywood and the surrounding areas.

“Music is the universal language we use to adapt, engage and thrive in our culture,” Ms. Louis said. “We use music as both a goal and a tool to open doors and positively affect the lives of our students.”
