Aerial videos can give a whole new dimension to a company’s product or the services that it provides. It also makes a company seem impressive because most people believe that the only way you can produce an aerial video is by hiring a helicopter or light plane at huge expense, and therefore the company that is showing the video must be an important one.

It is true that up until recently that was the only way to produce aerial video, and that hiring a helicopter for a few hours of filming could run into many thousands. However, today we have UAV’s, or drones, and it is quite possible to produce a fabulous video shot by using a drone.

Of course, producing a video with a drone requires a skilled drone pilot and he or she must have the skills not only to fly the drone but also to decide upon the best way to take the shots. A drone pilot also has to be approved by the Civil Aviation Authority. This requires attending a training course that lasts up to four days and covers UK air regulations, flight safety, flight planning, and passing both a theory and practical flight skills test.

On successful completion of the training, the pilot is awarded a Permission for Commercial Operations certificate which must be renewed every 12 months, It is illegal to fly a drone for paid work unless the pilot has the certificate and also full insurance. Of course, it goes without saying that the Slamm Productions drone pilot has both.

The company uses different drones for different needs. Where there is plenty of space, the company uses a DJI Inspire which is very stable in gusting winds and can also travel very fast. In urban areas or more confined spaces, the company uses a Mavic Air drone which is considerably smaller than the DJI Inspire but can still shoot in 4K. Slamm Productions can also shoot aerial stills and 360° panoramas.

In addition, the company has the experience to check areas for suitability and also often gain permission to fly in restricted areas.
