Transfinder Corporation, the industry leading school bus routing and logistics company, announced today that it will open an innovation center in India. Transfinder said the operation was necessary to secure top-tier programming talent needed to produce the solutions that clients are wanting and needing. The India site would be Transfinder’s second international site. In 2015 Transfinder opened an R&D site in Shanghai, China.
Following an exhaustive search for sites, the Transfinder India Innovation Center is scheduled to open in Hyderabad, the second largest city in the Indian state of Telangana. Transfinder is currently seeking four programmers with geographic information system (GIS) expertise.
“Our clients want more – faster! They want more of our solutions in their hands faster. It’s really that simple,” said Antonio Civitella, Transfinder President and CEO. “We are releasing two major solutions this year and significant upgrades to a number of other solutions and our clients can’t get enough from us. That’s been their message to us during the past few years. In order to keep delivering, we need to go where the talent is while at the same time still work tirelessly to bring the talent here.”
The decision to open Transfinder India comes four years after Transfinder Shanghai opened. Transfinder Shanghai has continued to expand from four employees in 2015 to 27 employees today. Transfinder Shanghai has outgrown three offices in the past four years and has room to expand to 40 at its current location. The Shanghai office grew by 30 percent this year alone.
Civitella noted some of the efforts Transfinder continues to undertake to bring programmers to its headquarters in Schenectady, located in New York’s Capital Region. The company has and will continue to hold in-house job fairs, host or sponsor hackathons, attend career fairs and engage multiple recruiters. Civitella purchased the building next door to the headquarters in anticipation of future growth in Schenectady.
But Civitella noted that his $14.5 million tech company is not filling these key roles fast enough. Civitella joked that he is even wearing out recruiters in Shanghai who have been hired to fill jobs in China. He said he has no plans to slow down and expects to add other offices to replicate its Transfinder Shanghai success.
“We have learned so much from opening our Shanghai operation. In 2015, we went from having just one office, our headquarters here in Schenectady, to having three: One in Austin, Texas, and the other in Shanghai, China. We now have a successful system in place to do it again and again and again. We have learned the best practices and each time we open an office it gets even easier.
“Once you go from zero to one, nothing stops you from growing exponentially,” Civitella added. Civitella said he expects to close 2020 with 18 employees in Transfinder India. He said he is excited about the additional diversity Transfinder India will bring to the company.
“We have seen just how much the employees at Transfinder Shanghai bring to the company overall,” Civitella said. “Our developers in Shanghai interact often with our team in Schenectady and we’ve even had Shanghai employees join our development team in Schenectady for months at a time. I anticipate that will happen more and more as we open additional operations such as Transfinder India.”
