The Talent Transformation Guild today released its first white paper on the Talent Transformation Pyramid. This open-sourced model is designed to help organizations manage talent needs for the fourth industrial revolution. Its ongoing development is supported by the Talent Transformation Guild.
This White Paper explains how the Talent Transformation Pyramid offers a holistic model to enable organizations to have a more strategic approach to meet Industry 4.0 challenges. It also includes powerful insights into the repercussions of the Gig Economy and the changing world of work.
The model brings together the 12 factors that support performance and illustrates their relationship and hierarchy so that everyone can share the same map for success. Some solutions only consider around half of these factors, strangely ignoring many situational and personal issues such as personality traits, emotional intelligence, and even behaviors.
Both the pyramid model and the white paper were produced by Eric Shepherd who is an established expert learning, assessments, and standards. Shepherd explains, “Automation has transformed the landscape of work and tasks we do. But counter-intuitively, given the fact that the 4th industrial revolution is driven by that automation, success will demand a more diverse set of social and soft skills. These include emotional intelligence, adaptability, curiosity, and creative thinking.”
Shepherd also recognizes other factors in the changing world of work. “The Gig Economy, made possible by digital platforms, is providing more autonomy for individuals. It also gives more flexibility for organizations that only want to pay for skills when they need them. That means it’s more important than ever for us to understand and navigate the factors that support readiness and performance. Providing learning opportunities will allow better opportunities for the worker, high-skilled employees for the employers, and build commissions for the gig platforms. Our new world cherishes hard skills. But values social skills just as much. With automation being part of the problem, it can also be part of the solution. This is where the Talent Transformation Pyramid comes in.”
The white paper references data from the World Economic Forum, a strong advocate for upskilling with individuals and organizations seeking to develop new skills and new ways of working. Other key references include McKinsey and Deloitte’s report on preparing tomorrow’s workforce for the fourth industrial revolution.

About Industry 4.0
According to the World Economic Forum, new and emerging technologies are affecting our lives in ways that indicate we are at the beginning of a Fourth Industrial Revolution (also known as Industry 4.0). This new era will build and extend the impact of digitization in new and unimaginable ways. The Fourth Industrial Revolution can be described as the advent of “cyber-physical systems” involving new capabilities for people and machines.
