WASHINGTON—Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael J. Hsu today kicked off the fifth year of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s (OCC) summer High School Scholars Internship Program (HSSIP).
In partnership with the District of Columbia’s Department of Employment Services Summer Youth Employment Program, the OCC recruits rising seniors and recent high school graduates from Washington, D.C., high schools for six-week, paid internships at the agency. This year, 33 new and returning students will have the opportunity to explore career paths in the federal government and learn about the OCC’s mission and the financial services industry. The OCC’s HSSIP has provided more than 350 internships since its founding in 2019.
“The HSSIP is one of several OCC internship programs that provide educational opportunities to attract diverse students to the agency,” said Acting Comptroller of the Currency Michael J. Hsu. “I’m proud of the OCC staff who have worked to develop activities and practical experiences to inspire this year’s interns to consider a career in financial services or at the OCC or elsewhere in the federal government.”
Interns will work with OCC staff in various business units and participate in a training team environment that relates components of a bank examination to personal financial decisions. The interns will also receive instruction in financial literacy, legal concepts, public speaking, resumé writing, and diversity and inclusion. Each participant will earn a competitive hourly wage and receive a laptop and professional attire.
