Comptroller of the Currency Helps Kick Off 2020 Summer Intern Process

News Release 2020-14 | January 31, 2020

WASHINGTON—Comptroller of the Currency Joseph M. Otting today joined District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and the heads of other federal agencies to kick off the 2020 Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program (MBSYEP) in the District.

Last year, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency was the first federal agency to partner with the District’s Department of Employment Services to host 80 minority rising seniors through the MBSYEP from participating area high schools. This year other financial regulatory agencies are joining, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Federal Housing Finance Agency, and the National Credit Union Administration.

“The federal regulatory agencies share an important mission and are full of highly accomplished, dedicated professionals,” said Comptroller Otting. “We can make a huge difference in the lives of young adults by providing them an opportunity to work in such an environment and to see for themselves what opportunities the world holds. I am proud the OCC is a leader in providing such experiences to area students who may not have the opportunity otherwise.”

The OCC plans to host 80 students at its headquarters for six weeks during the summer of 2020, including up to 15 returning students from last year’s class. Through the program at the OCC students are paid $20 per hour and receive stipends that cover commuting costs, meals, and professional attire.
