WASHINGTON – Earlier today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen held a call with Canada Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland. The Secretary thanked Deputy Prime Minster Freeland for the close partnership on developing and deploying impactful sanctions in response to Russia’s renewed aggression against Ukraine. Secretary Yellen and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland shared concerns that Russia’s actions undermine international law and pose a threat to the rules-based international order. Secretary Yellen expressed appreciation for Canada’s actions to address Russian aggression and reiterated that the United States and Canada will remain in close contact, including via the G7, to continue coordinating potential further responses.
