READOUT: Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen’s Meeting with Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire of France

SÃO PAULO – Today, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with France’s Minister of Finance Bruno Le Maire on the sidelines of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in São Paulo, Brazil. During their meeting, Secretary Yellen offered views on shared priorities, including our efforts to support Ukraine in its defense against Putin’s brutal invasion and deprive Russia of its ability to wage war. Secretary Yellen congratulated France and the rest of the EU for the passage of the EU’s four-year €50 billion Ukraine Facility. Secretary Yellen and Minister Le Maire had a constructive and detailed discussion about their shared priority of securing long-term financial support for Ukraine. Secretary Yellen also reiterated the Administration’s ongoing efforts to secure direct budget support in FY 2024 as part of the national security supplemental request before Congress and underscored the importance of Congress acting on financial support for Ukraine as quickly as possible.
