WASHINGTON – Earlier today, Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen met with Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Finance Minister Ahmed. During the meeting, Secretary Yellen discussed the increasing impacts of climate change on the economies of the United States and Nigeria and both countries’ plans to address these impacts, including through Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan, as well as the recently enacted U.S. Inflation Reduction Act. The Secretary also spoke about the critical need to respond to global food insecurity—that has been exacerbated by Russia’s illegal war in Ukraine—including through the International Financial Institution Action Plan to Address Food Insecurity. Secretary Yellen also shared views on the global macroeconomic outlook.
