READOUT: Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen’s Roundtable on IMF Policy Priorities

MARRAKECH – Today, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen held a roundtable discussion with finance ministers and senior officials from Angola, Brazil, Côte d’Ivoire, Fiji, Ghana, India, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, and Morocco on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Marrakech. Ministers noted the important role of the IMF in providing sound macroeconomic support, policy advice, and technical assistance. They also held a robust discussion, moderated by Under Secretary for International Affairs Jay Shambaugh, on the IMF’s mandate and policy priorities going forward. Secretary Yellen underscored the U.S. commitment to the IMF and to pursuing policies to help it fulfill its critical mission. Secretary Yellen also shared U.S. policy priorities for the IMF, including by achieving a successful conclusion to the 16th General Quota Review this year, placing the Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust on sound footing, and taking steps in the near term to make sure the IMF represents its diverse membership.
