MEXICO CITY – Today, during her visit to Mexico City, Secretary Janet L. Yellen toured a crime evidence lab operated by the office of Mexico’s Attorney General, Fiscalía General de la República (FGR), that processes evidence of fentanyl-related and other illicit activities. FGR leadership briefed Secretary Yellen on their efforts to stem the trafficking of synthetic narcotics, specifically fentanyl. Secretary Yellen also had the opportunity to witness a canine demonstration with drug, firearm, and currency detection canines donated by the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement (INL). Secretary Yellen emphasized the importance of the United States’ partnership with the government of Mexico to combat narcotics trafficking and the associated illicit financial activities.
