MEXICO CITY – While traveling with Secretary of the Treasury Janet L. Yellen, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson and Hacienda Deputy Secretary Gabriel Yorio met separately to conduct a roundtable on illicit finance cooperation. The roundtable included representatives of Treasury, Hacienda, the Mexican Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF), the Tax Administration Service (SAT),and the National Commission on Banking and Securities (CNBV). Under Secretary Nelson and Deputy Secretary Yorio discussed building on the strong partnership between their offices. The roundtable focused on the importance of information sharing among and within our governments and with the private sector to address Anti-Money Laundering/Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) priorities and challenges, such as the illicit finance threat posed by predicate offenses that affect our communities, such as synthetic narcotics, including fentanyl, and precursor chemicals, arms and human trafficking. Under Secretary Nelson and Deputy Secretary Yorio committed to build on this roundtable to further enhance joint efforts to combat illicit finance.
